![]() Poiana Brasov Poiana Brasov (in German Schulerau) is a resort for winter sports in Romania, being a tourist attraction of international rename, and a district of Brasov municipality. It has 12 ski slopes with different difficulty degrees, sport fields, a lake, clubs, bars and restaurants. The accommodation is insured in luxury hotels, pensions, villas and cabin. Also, in Poiana there is an ambulance and a police station as well as a postal office.
The resort is also recommended for the treatment of asthenia neurosis, for exhaustion states and physical and intellectual tiredness, for secondary anemia and endocrine diseases, for diseases of the respiratory apparatus. Often, in the winter, the temperature reaches -150C.
Poaia Brasov has been from the oldest of times the destination of camping and for practicing winter sports. The first documentary mention of the location dates from 1427, in the context of sheep breeding activities that took place here. The skiers reached Postavaru ever since 1895, and in 1906 in Poiana took place the first ski contest. Until about 1950, the resort maintained in the limits of natural endowments. Only a few villakin and cabins could be seen around. In 1951, in Poiana Brasov took place the Winter University Olympic Games. On this occasion, a modern hotel of sports and the first cable ropeway – Poiana-Postavarul – on 2,150 m are brought into service. Then other and other arrangements and endowments are next, that gave Poaia the look it has today. |
